KFA Search’s Six-Step Process provides for the successful recruitment of your ideal candidate within 90 days.
One of the fundamental keys to KFA’s success is the consistent personal attention of our president, Kathy Fehling, during each phase of the search process.
KFA intentionally maintains a low search volume that allows Kathy to be integrally involved in each step of the process. That personal attention, together with our comprehensive and proven process, results in timely completion of assignments and the delivery of highly qualified candidates who are the right fit for your company.
Step 1: Introductory Consultation
One hallmark of KFA’s success is the lasting relationships we build with our clients, beginning with the initial consultation. Before each search engagement commences, Kathy Fehling meets with the client to gain a thorough understanding of the company’s culture, strategy, key objectives, product line and market position, as well as the specific needs and requirements for the desired executive position.
Step 2: Candidate Specification
Utilizing information gained from the Introductory Consultation, KFA prepares a detailed Position Specification to share with prospective candidates. This document includes an overview of the company along with applicable marketplace information, the position’s responsibilities and requirements, and the key qualifications and skills desired in the ideal executive. Even when client companies must remain confidential, KFA has a record of success in recruiting highly accomplished executives.
Step 3: Recruitment of Candidates
KFA dedicates the first 30 days of each search to communicating with potential candidates to build a slate of qualified and interested executives. We utilize a broad range of sources, including our extensive personal network and a proprietary database of more than 70,000 senior-level executives in the life science industry. KFA has also invested in proprietary software as well as strategic industry organizations and online memberships to maximize executive outreach.
Step 4: Candidate Presentation Meeting
In one of the most critical steps in the search process, Kathy Fehling meets in person with the client’s search committee to present a slate of vetted, qualified and interested candidates. This meeting enables the search committee to review the candidates’ backgrounds in detail and agree on an initial slate before interviews begin. After reviewing each candidate’s experience, compensation and credentials and considering the subjective insight Kathy provides, the search committee determines the “short list” of executives to be interviewed.
Step 5: Client Interviews
KFA personally interviews all selected candidates at least twice: once via telephone by a KFA recruiter and once in person by Kathy. We then prepare a comprehensive Candidate Profile for each candidate, including a detailed career history and a subjective analysis of the prospective candidate’s experience, critical attributes and potential limitations as they relate to the position and the client company’s culture. We coordinate client and candidate calendars to ensure prompt, effective interviews and timely feedback.
Step 6: Selection, Offer & Closure
Once the desired candidate is identified, KFA provides an in-depth reference evaluation that goes far beyond the industry standard of 3-5 references. We push candidates beyond their comfort zone, by requesting 12 references (3 superiors, 3 peers, 3 subordinates and 3 others). We also complete a full background check and education verification. This extensive scrutiny gives us high confidence in our estimation of candidates’ strengths and weaknesses and makes for a better match. Finally, we work with the client to prepare an offer and negotiate with the candidate of choice until the search is successfully closed.
